WORKING GROUP FOR METEOROLOGICAL CODES

WG/MC Purpose

The Working Group for Meteorological Codes shall be the principal means for affecting continuing coordination on issues dealing with meteorological codes used for collecting, exchanging, and distributing meteorological information by departments and federal agencies.

The WG/MC shall be responsible for (but not limited to)

  1. Documenting national coding practices that are an exception to those adopted by the international organizations including submitting and responding to requested changes to Federal Meteorological Handbooks (FMHs) to/from the Secretariat, Interdepartmental Committee for Meteorological Services and Supporting Research (ICMSSR) dealing with meteorological codes used for collecting, exchanging, and distributing meteorological information by federal agencies.
  2. Being cognizant of international coding practices as promulgated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  3. Collecting, analyzing, and consolidating agency requirements and needs.
  4. Being responsive in addressing agency’s new requirements or needs.
  5. Preparing national plans that implement practices as agreed to by the international organizations.
  6. Resolving issues and/or problems and conflicts as they arise.

WG/MC Meetings

Meetings will be held with sufficient frequency to assure prompt handling of working group business.
